Please ask our bar staff for Braggot combinations
What is a Braggot?
So, what is a braggot anyway?
Responsibly sourced honey and beer, what else do we need to say about a braggot? Apparently, a lot more. A braggot is a drink that has confused the world for generations. Here are the basics: A braggot is a combination of Mead and Beer or Honey and malt. There are various schools of thought around what the specifics of how a braggot is made. Either way, the history of this hybrid beverage is, like almost all beer history, disputed. Historic references suggest braggot is a Celtic drink dating back to at least the 12th century. Braggot was a common drink throughout the medieval and post- Renaissance Europe.
There are many that would characterize a braggot is traditionally made with 50% honey and 50% malt, although there is no set in stone recipe. The honey can be added to the beer either during fermentation or it can be added to the kettle during the boil. Each will produce a unique result. But one of the best ways we like to do a braggot is to let our staff mix it in house using our sister company The Viking Alchemist Meadery’s mead and our beer to blend at the tap as a custom beverage unique to each customer.
